Well said. Also, that video of Samuel Jackson reading the book has long been one of my favorite things ever. :)

The book was hysterical all on its own but his narration of it is just 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽

Hey Tom, thanks for supporting a recent post of mine. I love this topic you covered. Sleep is key to sustainable performance. I have a question and this comes from my situation. I'm on the first rung of the ladder when it comes to building a writing presence.

My question: Whether it be building a writing presence or building a business, it seems like an incredible amount of effort is required to get it up and running. In that effort, it seems like sacrifices to sleep and so on might have to be made.

What's your take on the required approach for someone trying to get off the ground?

It's a great point. Getting up those first rungs requires *hustle* but that's different from the *hustle culture* we've all been sucked into. Almost all the research suggests that our brains max out at five hours of focused work a day *at most.* In other words, doing a 10, 12, 14 hour work-day means that you're performing hustle culture, not hustling in a way that's going to meaningfully move the needle. You're going to have to try out different things to figure out how you can truly be the most impactful with your focused work time but I'd say that a good first step is to try and eliminate task-switching and batch similar tasks. Make your work time truly focused.

Thanks for sharing your perspective Tom. I agree with your tip. The research shows that humans are ineffective multi-taskers. You bring up a good point about those long days. Being busy doesn’t always means being productive.
